Wye Valley Crafts Association

The Wye Valley Crafts Association was formed in 1986. Its principal aims are to maintain high standards of individual workmanship, develop a professional approach to business dealings and provide opportunities for crafts people to exhibit, demonstrate and sell their work.

Come and visit our shop at Abbey Mill in Tintern where members of the Association sell their wares.

The Wye Valley Crafts Association was originally founded to help combat the isolation felt by lone craft workers and to collaborate in selling members’ work.

After a few years of renting temporary retail premises, usually Christmas shops in nearby towns, the association found a permanent home at Abbey Mill in Tintern. This is a complex of shops, a licensed restaurant, fish ponds and a restored and working water mill in the heart of the village.

The WVCA shop has been successfully run as a co-operative venture since 1994. With up to twenty crafts in one room, customers can be sure that all items are hand made locally. Although standards are high, prices are reasonable due to the way the shop is run. Members take turns to work in the shop, so there are no staff costs. If there are any spaces in the shop, we offer it to other craftspeople as a guest spot for 4 week periods. This is a good way for craftspeople to test the market with little risk.

We are always interested in being invited to shows, exhibitions, etc. We can either provide a small marquee or use gazebos for outdoor events. We also still look out for Christmas shops in nearby towns, e.g. Monmouth, Chepstow, Abergavenny, Ross.
