Event Description
Tintern Philosophy Circle
We are very sorry to announce the death of Ray Billington at his home in Tintern on Saturday 1st September. His partner Hatti was with him and she says he died peacefully. Hatti intends to hold a celebration of his life and work later this year. The Guardian, to which Ray was an occasional contributor in its Face-to-Faith column, has commissioned an obituary. Ray and Hatti founded the Tintern Philosophy Circle nearly 20 years ago and it has met monthly ever since. Ray will be greatly missed as a good friend, a philosopher of distinction, and an inspiring teacher.
At the next meeting of the Tintern Philosophy Circle on Tuesday, 18th September 2012 commencing at 7.30pm in the Rose and Crown we will begin with personal tributes to Ray, following which John Clarke will introduce a discussion of Ray’s philosophical ideas based on some of his writings, focusing especially on Ray’s thoughts about religious experience as expressed through art, music, nature and human love.
Maria Taylor’s talk on ‘Meaningful coincidence’ has been postponed until the meeting on October 16th.
