Event Description

The next meeting of the Tintern Philosophy Circle is being held on Tuesday, 21st March 2017 commencing at 7.30pm in the Rose and Crown pub in Tintern.

Philosophy CircleTopic:  Mind and its Place in Nature: Thinking about Human Evolution

Speaker: John Clarke

How do we as conscious human beings fit into the standard Darwinian story of evolution ? Are we simply parts of the natural physical world, or are we in some way distinct from, even superior to, it ? What are the implications of these issues for our understanding of the meaning of human existence ?

All are welcome to the talk which will be followed by informal discussion. The Rose & Crown is a friendly pub which has a comprehensive menu if you wish to have a meal before the meeting.

Claire Hamilton. At the last meeting it was John Clarke’s sad task to announce the death of Claire Hamilton, a long-time member of and speaker at the Circle. The memorial to her life will take place near Monmouth at 2.00 pm on Saturday 18th March. If you would like to attend please contact Steve Eddy by Monday 13th March on steve@livingmyths.com
