Art and Ideas: The Music of the Spheres

untitled (10)This illustrated talk by local philosopher, John Clarke explores the origins and influence of the ancient Pythagorean/Platonic belief that the cosmos and the natural world, as well as the human body/soul, constitute a living whole based on harmonic proportions, a cosmology of spiritual significance which had an important impact on Mediaeval and Renaissance ideas of beauty and of proportion.

Sunday 21st May 2017, 2.30-4.30, with tea and cake, at the Wye Valley Arts Centre, Llandogo (next to Brown’s Store).Voluntary donation of £5, proceeds to NSPCC. Please let the Centre know on if you intend to come. This event is In memory of Claire Hamilton 1952-2017, harpist, novelist, Celtic scholar,and long-time member of the Circle to which she contributed a talk on this topic some while ago. If you wish to make a contribution towards the publication of her novel I a Child (about a woman’s struggle to find her creativity and independence in unexpected ways) which she was completing at the time of her death and is being edited by her partner Steve Eddy, see:
